Callaghan Engineering were appointed to design the Mechanical and Electrical services for the refurbishment of an existing hospital ward which was being used for palliative care. The systems which were replaced included general services, lighting and emergency lighting, nurse-call and ICT.
The hospital used an existing contractor to execute the works while Callaghan Engineering supervised the installation , commissioning and handover. Our engineers also fulfilled the role of PSDP.
The mechanical services are also due to be replaced to include air-conditioning, heating and water services as well as soils and wastes. This work is due to take place in 2016.
Some of the challenges faced by the engineering team included integrating modern services within older existing installations and also the routing of services infrastructure through the fabric of the building where some of the walls measured up to 12 inches in thickness.
