This new type 3 post primary school build consisted of a three storey school building which is situated adjacent to the existing old grammar school (Ashton House) on the east side of the site. The school site is located at Blackrock Road, Cork.
The existing west wing of the Ashton building was refurbished to accommodate administration, pastoral and storage areas with a corridor linking it to the west side of the new school. The existing PE hall building was also refurbished as part of the overall project.
This new school will cater for 525 pupils and 44 staff and have an overall floor area of 3951m2, which includes a ground floor, first floor and second floor. The ground floor consists of 8 number teaching spaces including Home Economics, Dress Design, Music and Drama, Social Studies, Construction Studies, Metalwork and Technical Graphics rooms.
The first floor includes 5 number standard classrooms, Multimedia, Library, Guidance and Science Laboratory rooms while the second floor consists of 4 number standard classrooms, Art and Crafts, Business, Commerce and Computer, Mathematics, Science Laboratory, Demonstration Room and Lecture rooms. Administration, storage and toilet areas are common on all floors.
Callaghan Engineering were engaged to carry out the full mechanical and electrical design services from the design stages through to the construction on site. This post primary school was completed in 2013.
