First Round College Offers – Engineering and Construction points are up
It’s crunch time for all leaving cert grads and CAO applicants as the round one points are released for every course in every third-level institution across the country. For many, the offers will indicate what they will be studying and where they will be living for the next few years.
Required points offered in Round One reflect the increases and decreases in student applicant numbers for each course. The areas which saw the biggest increase in student application numbers this year are – construction, nursing, engineering/technology architecture, business & pharmacy.
The points for General Engineering have increased by as much as 75 in UCC, with the biggest demand for places in the construction related sector. Entry points requirements for architecture are up 15 in DIT & 25 in UCD. Architectural design is up 15 in WIT and Sligo. Construction management & economics courses have risen between 10-30 points and property and quantity surveying is up by 20 -30 points in DIT and GMIT.
