Clifden Community School

Callaghan Engineering were responsible for the M&E Design from concept stage to building completion.   The post primary school is a two-storey and part 3-storey L-shaped building with a floor area of 3852 square metres located on this spectacular sloping site outside Clifden town.  Works also included the demolition of the existing school building and associated pre-fabricated classroom structures once the new school was fully operational. One of the main challenges for this project was that the existing school building had to be kept operational while the new school was built on the same site. The building was completed on time and within budget and will cater for 425 pupils and 38 staff.

Spike Island Named Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction by the World Travel Awards 2017!

spike island

Spike Island has been named Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction by the World Travel Awards 2017.  The island was originally a monastery before housing Fort Mitchel and its famous prison, the largest in Britain’s history. Although Spike Island has over 1,300 years of history, it has only been a tourist attraction for the last three years. This highlights Spike Island’s amazing accomplishment at winning Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction, beating famous competitors like the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, and the Colosseum.

Callaghan Engineering were commissioned as the Mechanical and Electrical Design Team for this major tourism and heritage project initiated by Cork County Council. The project involved working closely with the Interpretive/Exhibition Design Team to realise this important historical site’s potential by renovating several buildings into a museum and interpretive centres with authentically retold guided tours, bathrooms, a cafe, and a gift shop.  We are proud to be a part of Spike Island’s ongoing history.
