Luke Walker

BEng (Hons) MIET  |  Technical Director

At 16, I was unsure of which career path to pursue but had an interest in outdoor life and the public services, so went to college for two years to complete a BTEC National Diploma in Public Services. I then took a year out, travelling and working as a volunteer outdoor education instructor in Wales.  Following my time at the outdoor education centre, I was set on becoming an outdoor education instructor, and the centres manager advised that I should complete a degree in something I liked doing and complete a PGCE to enable me to teach.  I also loved engineering and media-based technologies, so decided to undertake a degree in this path, completing a 4 year BEng course in Electronic Engineering at Oxford Brookes University.

Once I had completed my degree, I found employment at RED. 13 years later, I have had the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most prestigious projects the UK and Europe have to offer.  I have been involved in the design and delivery of multiple commercial and technological projects including data centre's ranging from upgrade works in live facilities to new construction in green field sites.  My aspirations moving forward within RED is to become Chartered, for which RED has provided the mechanism to achieve , through long term experience and continued professional development.

I have received in house and external training on a number of complex software programs such as ETAP, Amtech, Romonet, Dialux, AutoCAD and Revit to name but a few.  During my 5th year at RED, in 2009 I was shortlisted by Data Centre Dynamics as a finalist in the Young Mission Critical Engineer of the Year category and also received awards for Uptime Institute Green enterprise IT award in 2011.
