Pfizer is the world's largest research-based biomedical and pharmaceutical company. The Pfizer Ireland Pharmaceuticals site at Dun Laoghaire manufactures a range of diagnostic reagents and sterile pharmaceuticals. The plant has steadily expanded with the development of a 10,000sq ft sterile manufacturing facility and the introduction of new sterile products.
Callaghan Engineering provided the detailed engineering and tender packages for the upgrade of the steam and condensate systems, boiler house ventilation and new boiler controls to provide significant improvements in operating efficiency.
Callaghan Engineering was also commissioned to undertake a front end study for the significant renovation and redevelopment of the existing laboratories. This included a detailed project execution plan and cost report. The main challenge was to provide an effective and optimal facility layout, maximising the design space available to meet the requirements of new biologic laboratories. The design also had to consider proximity to process critical areas that lay outside the laboratory perimeter. This provided a sound basis for detailed design work and the critical turnaround time.
